Frame Your Improvement Journey

Have clarity about your improvement journey. Here's the framework (again):

  • Skill
  • Strategy
  • Physicality
  • Psychology*
Pay attention to your mindset. Mindset separates elite from excellent. Mindset includes your attitude, choices, and effort. It frames your perception of identity (who you are), performance (how you play), and response to challenges.

The good news is that our mindset is malleable. Each of you have different situations. Some have legitimate expectations of daily high performance. Others will have to scratch and claw to make the team and fight daily for a chance to get 'minutes'. Bring your best self to the gym daily.

One former MVBer told me she always walked into the gym standing tall, head up, chest out thinking, "the best player in the gym just walked in."

Olympic athletes routinely practice mindfulness, including imagery (visualization). They see themselves executing their warmup, event, and even standing on the podium with a medal around their neck.

Read and study this article (hat tip Brooklyn Kohlheim) about mindset of Olympians.
