Some consider Coach John Wooden, "the best." Coach Pete Newell's Cal Bears defeated Wooden's UCLA Bruins eight consecutive games.

Newell said a coach's job is teaching players to "see the game." Bobby Knight said basketball was 80 percent mental.

Dr. Fergus Connolly teaches coaching structure as teaching skill, strategy, physicality, and psychology.

Part of psychology is knowing, "this is who we are" and "that is how we play."

Coaches never know exactly what players hear... fortunately, sixth graders from long ago shared their perceptions.
