If a college coach comes to watch you play, they're not just looking at your fundamentals or 'the numbers'. They've already done homework in those areas.
They want to see your "sports character," your effort, your impact on winning, and how you interact with teammates and coaches.
They have enough headaches already without taking on 'children' who pout, disrepect officials, or are prima donnas.
Lagniappe. From Ben Volin's Boston Globe Sunday Football Notes:
Then there was this anecdote from Bears safety Kevin Byard on 670 The Score. After Monday’s practice, Williams asked his teammates to take better care of their locker room.
“First thing he said was, ‘Hey, man, we’re all grown men here, right?’ ” Byard said. “He was like, ‘We’re getting a little too sloppy. We’re leaving water bottles, towels, and all types of things around. Custodians have a lot of square footage that they have to cover in this whole building. Let’s try to help them out by cleaning up after ourselves.’ ”
Some people may not think that has much to do with football. But I say it’s a tremendous sign of maturity, leadership and attention to detail from Williams, and a sign that he “gets it.”
