Historically, Melrose has played its best volleyball against the best opponents.
One measure of athletes and teams is their capacity to be "worthy opponents," showing both skill and will. Playing strong teams, especially away from home, creates opportunity.
Many memorable MVB moments occurred in exactly that situation -
2003, defeating undefeated Arlington Catholic in the sectionals.
2005, beating D1 powerhouse Andover in Dunn Gymnasium.
2011, sweeping D1 contender Lincoln-Sudbury at their place.
2012, topping Canton in the state semifinals (Melrose was not an underdog).
2022, besting Duxbury in the sectional finals
Watch what it takes... serves that challenge defenders, decisiveness, competitiveness at the net, solid first passes, e.g. high and nearer to the 10 foot line than the net. Everyone fills a role.
