"The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem." - Captain Jack Sparrow
Years ago a rookie asked who is "the big lefty" on the mound in a Spring Training game. Someone answered, "That's Steve Carlton, the Cy Young winner." Lenny Dykstra replied, "I'll stick him." Facing a challenge didn't deter his confidence.
Bring your confidence game because "success is a choice." Tryout memories abound.
A tiny sixth grader came up to me before tryout and said, "Coach, I am really excited to be here." Be excited, not anxious.
Stand out. A tall sixth grader showed up with knee high, rainbow socks. Be memorable.
Nonverbal communication counts, too. A young girl, Zoe Overlan, made the best eye contact I have ever seen in a young player. Be engaged.
Coaches see everything. Imagine that you have "coaches eyes." You want high-energy players, high-effort players. Be the hardest worker.
Control what you can control - attitude, choices, effort.
Summary:
- Be excited.
- Be memorable.
- Be coachable.
- Be engaged.
- Be the hardest worker.
Lagniappe. Repost. Attitude is everything.
