Game 7: Melrose 3 Stoneham 0

Melrose proved an inhospitable host, dropping neighbor Stoneham 25-13, 25-9, 25-12. The win boosts Melrose's record to 4-3 headed on the road to Masconomet tomorrow.

Melrose earned the win with solid serving, receiving, attack, and defense. It was their best overall execution of the season. Four days of practice made a world of difference.

Stoneham won the first three points of the match and Melrose counterattacked and dominated.

Sabine Wenzel was immense at the net and Emme Boyer's return and relocation to the middle proved to be a difference maker. Sadie Smith made a lot of excellent defensive plays in addition to steady setting.

Anna Burns and Danni DiGiorgio were solid in the back row, Adriana Santoriello hit with confidence and Alisa Dautovic had a strong service performance. Maggie Shoemaker, Sabrina McArt, and Ella Friedlaender all had moments.

Everyone played and many got into the scoring column.

Melrose Notes: The availability of Emme Boyer provided both additional hitting and blocking 'force'. That complemented Sabine Wenzel who had a monster game in the middle. Adriana showed signs that she could emerge as the third impact hitter needed for success against stronger clubs.

Recency bias can distort perspective, making tomorrow's trip to Masconomet a useful measuring stick.
