At thirteen, my mother, a problem drinker, offered me alcohol. Fortunately, I never got too interested.

Alcohol impairs alertness, judgment, sleep, athletic performance, recovery, and more.

If you say, "but there's nothing else to do," you're deceiving yourself. You either invest your time or you spend it. Don't cheat yourself, your teammates, or the team.

But why should student-athletes particularly care? A single night’s alcohol use impairs hydration (alcohol is a diuretic), muscle recovery, healing, and can cause memory deficits for three days. Alcohol damages sleep. It limits absorption of key vitamins. It decreases endurance.
