If we accept the framework of improvement (skill, strategy, physicality, psychology), then how can we improve fastest?
Control what you can control.
1. Get more sleep. Sleep helps everything. Make sleep a priority seeking eight hours a night. That might mean sacrificing something else, like texting or heavy social media use. Life is about tradeoffs.
2. Be more coachable. Listen. Know the coverages and the game plan. Share it with teammates to be sure they know. When you don't know, ask. That means "performance-focused feedback- rich" behaviors.
3. Make better decisions. When aggression is warranted, be aggressive. When it's a downball or 'get me over' free ball, get the ball over. If you contact the ball below the top of the net, you must be under the ball.
4. Know what's working and what isn't. "Do more of what works and less of what doesn't." If you can't hit the 'downball' then use a roll shot, push, or platform pass.
5. Up your focus. Don't concentrate on the score or distractions. Fully engage. Use "next play" mentality.
Lagniappe. In the hierarchy of "MUST, NEED, WANT" where would this action fit? Obviously, it applies most often for short sets and tip attacks. When I ask 'what can we improve', players answer, "everything."
