Day 1 Is in the Books

41 hopefuls appeared for the opening day of volleyball tryouts. August heat showed up with temperatures forecast to moderate slightly over the next few days.

It was also the tipoff for new varsity assistant Gia Vlajkovic, predicted to be a “great addition” by Coach Scott Celli. Gia, a two-time sectional champion for MVB, starred as a setter as a junior and “all-six” outside hitter as a senior.

Melrose returns thirteen varsity players this season with intense competition at all positions. 

Melrose kicks off the season on September 8th at Reading, one of the Middlesex League favorites in 2026.
