Carroll's core competence is COMPETE. Compete relentlessly, every day. That starts at PRACTICE. Win every sprint, every lift, every repetition. Don't practice serving. Practice serving intentionally to a spot, to the weakest receiver. IMPROVE. Take the one percent better mindset with you and amazing things happen.
Craft your reality, your personal and collective philosophy. The only person with whom to compare yourself is yesterday's you.
And remember Pete Carroll's mother's optimism, "Something good is about to happen."

In November 2003, Melrose faced Arlington Catholic (22-0) in Andover's Dunn Gymnasium. AC had a pair of 6'2" middle hitters, twin towers. AC had not lost a set all season and had eliminated Melrose in the 2002 playoffs.
