A Matter of Trust - Be the Next Guy

962 words end in *bility. Bill Belichick emphasizes 'ability' and 'durability'. Together they sum reliability...being productive regardless of situation.

Take the Red Sox with Ryan Brasier in the bullpen. No Red Sox fan felt they could trust him with the ball.

"Confidence comes from proven success." - Bill Parcells

As a young player, that's formidable. Remember, "every day is showtime." The coaches evaluate everyone daily looking for reliability. Who steps up with the least dropoff?

Coach Scott Celli looks for the best combinations. Thirteen games into the 2002 season with a record of 7-6, he replaced the opposite/right side with a freshman. The team went 6-1 down the stretch and won a playoff game. The team never looked back, winning sectional titles from 2003-2005.

Melrose has an excellent core back row with Captain Grace Gentile, Gigi Albuja, and Maggie Turner. What if one had to come out? Who's "next guy up?" Who communicates, can "get the ball up," and make good decisions? I'm not at practice. If you're in the queue, you should be at practice with the mindset that "I'm the guy."

It's not enough to get on the floor. Find a way to stay on the floor. Impact winning. Be the next guy.

Lagniappe.
