Belief and Attitude

Things go wrong...a bad serve, missed attack, misplayed ball. Sometimes a whole game. 

The season didn't end last night. Four years ago, Sadie was the last Melrose volleyballer to play basketball for me. We lost by four to Andover, a far superior team, with players that won the State Championship last winter. We were within two points in the final minute. 

After the game, the girls told me the Andover parents said "you competed hardest of any team they played that season."

Earlier in the season we lost by a point to a mediocre but aggressive, scrappy team. Afterwards, I told them that the level of response was unacceptable. That wouldn't happen again. In the rematch, we led 20-2 at halftime with aggressiveness at both ends, ball movement, and unselfishness. The opposing parents, according to my wife, groused that we had gotten 'new players'. 

New players aren't coming to practice tomorrow. The question is which team shows up. Attitude is everything.
