Use the power of analogy. Tempering makes metals tougher, more useful. Tempering exposes metal alloys to heat, similar to playing tough teams on the schedule.
Years ago we lost a middle school basketball game. One player tried to absorb responsibility for the loss. "It's my fault. I was terrible." Remember, these are thirteen year-old children. A teammate gave her a hug, saying "We win together and we lose together." That was the strongest group we coached, winning a high school summer league as rising frosh. It included future MVBers Victoria Crovo, Kaitlyn MacInnes, and Kat Torpey.
The ability to recover from disappointments in volleyball and life means so much. Define your destiny together.
