Volleyball is a hard game to execute at a high level. Statistics may or may not reflect how a game went. They reflected how the match unfolded. I'll review them briefly.
Serving: Melrose had only five service points for the match and served at 80.6 percent. Westborough had 36 points off service.
Assists: Leah Fowke had nine. Melrose was constantly on the defensive, living in 'free ball city'. Westborough had 36 assists.
Kills: Sadie Jaggers and Sabine Wenzel each had five among the team total of twelve. Westborough had 37 kills.
If we examined the serve receive efficiency, e.g. (passes - errors)/total, the percentage would not be up to par.
Westborough is an outstanding team and terrific teams can make another team look mediocre or worse. Melrose had two big wins earlier in the week and perhaps those took the 'urgency' out of the moment.
A hard loss can refocus a team.
