Why care about girls' sports? As a society we should care because sport provides a wealth of benefits for participants. Societies where women have a reduced role have lower productivity by excluding half the population from leadership, management, and full education.
- Better mental health and self-esteem
- Higher academic performance
- Superior graduation rates
- Reduced breast cancer rate and osteoporosis (thin bones)
- Excellence in long-term achievement - "80% of the female executives at Fortune 500 companies identified themselves as former “tomboys”—having played sports."
- Lower teenage pregnancy rates
- Sport teaches time management, balancing court and classroom
- Sport teaches discipline, doing what you may not 'like' now to earn rewards that you want later.
