Game Tape from a Deciding Set

Study the game. Study Melrose games. Study cellphone video from your offseason to examine your technique. Study other games. Without exception, excellent players are students of the game.

You can make your own video (for your personal YouTube site) using video and Youtubetrimmer.com.

Here are selected clips from the final set of Winchester at Newton North. Critiques are for teaching purposes only and not a criticism of any player or coach.

A lot to see in this clip, an excellent block from North, great coverage from Winchester, later the North hitter attacks the seam and Winchester defends, and finally a score on the tip. Read the North outside hitter (OH) and compare her first and second attacks. I usually 'rewatch' the clip with a slower playback speed.

There's no 'unitary' (one way) defense. In this clip, North defends the tip with the right side (RS) coming across.

In yesterday's clips, we saw the North setter jump setting. Here she doesn't.

Spectacular defense from both clubs.

Play the percentages. I don't know the success rate of tips from the pipe attack. A cut shot sails a few inches wide.

Winchester seemed to be playing "uphill" (from behind) all night. Here, trailing 17-14 they deliver a "pass, set, spike" from the OH. The first pass is high and to the middle, quite acceptable with a capable setter.

Amazingly creative set...a spinning jump backset for a strike.

Expand your toolbox with creative attacks. Here's a great "cut shot" achieved with 'thumb down' hand position. It deserves your attention at 0.25 playback speed on settings.

Your brain is a supercomputer. Load these "software upgrades" and grow your game.
