STAY AHEAD OF PLAYER DEV TRENDS
— Steve Dagostino (@DagsBasketball) November 12, 2025
Over the last 15-18 years on working with players and teams on development, my philosophy on what to prioritize hasn’t changed. Fill in the gaps of what players need, that will result in the best chance of success in games.

As a player, what do you need?
Reflect on the Four Parameters of Excellence"
- Skill (technique)
- Strategy (tactics, volleyball IQ)
- Physicality (strength, quickness, conditioning)
- Psychology (resilience, mental toughness)
First, maturity will raise your physical makeup but will not maximize it without training.
Second, young players "do not know what they don't know." As LA Rams coach Sean McVay says, "Everyone benefits from coaching."
Third, beware ego, distractions, and complacency. If anyone thinks this season was "good enough," be sure that Coach Scott Celli does not. It's something to build upon.
Fourth, become more versatile. Be able to play more positions at a high level. Add to your craft. Learn to score off tips, cut shots, off the block, or whatever the demands of your position are.
Lagniappe. Enemies of greatness. Do you want to be great?
