Game 17: Duxbury 3 Melrose 0

Duxbury came to Melrose undefeated, having lost only three sets on the season, and left the same way, topping Melrose 25-20, 25-18, and 25-18.

The loss drops Melrose to 11-6 on the season. Melrose has the day off tomorrow before hosting Burlington Monday.

Duxbury had superior consistency, found holes in the Melrose defense, and attacked players who they perceived as struggling.

Melrose tried freshman Amelie Johnson in the third set as a right-sided blocker in the third set and did inch closer while she was in there.

Melrose led 17-15 in the first set and had an opportunity to go up 18-15 on a kill, but the official called Melrose with a violation. Play went downhill from there as Duxbury was on a 10-3 run.

Melrose notes: Solid crowd for a Saturday afternoon as Melrose and Duxbury fans watched the MIAA one seed. Melrose played competitively but couldn't make enough plays as they played "uphill," trailing for much of the match.
