Every season is unique. Forced comparisons invariably miss the mark.
MVB 25 has improved significantly from the club that struggled during the PlayDay. As have opponents, who also want to win.
There's still the potential for significantly more volleyball in 2025, with two regular season matches this week and the playoffs beginning next week.
Statistically impactful freshmen are as common as hen's teeth.
- 2006, Hannah Brickley (updated - 86 kills via Coach Celli)
- 2013, Victoria Crovo 161 kills, 2.1 per set
- 2019, Chloe Gentile 113 kills, 1.8 per set
- 2025 (incomplete) Adriana Santoriello 117 kills, 1.7 per set, 79 in the last 9 matches with 2.26 per set over that span
If any Melrose freshman has a career arc similar to Hannah, Victoria, or Chloe, then they and Melrose volleyball will be most fortunate.
That doesn’t overlook the play of Dani or Alisa who have major roles or the potential for Leila and Amelie. Nor does it forget the solid sophomore seasons of Sadie, Elise, Ella, and Gen or the potential impact of Sabrina, another athlete as yet unleashed. Time is on their side.
