Game 5: Melrose 3 Stoneham 0

Melrose put together its most complete effort of the season, downing Stoneham 25-8, 25-11, and 25-7 at the Veterans Memorial Middle School.

The Lady Raiders blended excellent defense, relentless hitting, and strong setting. This occurred despite illness sweeping the team recently. Stoneham didn't lie down, putting up an energetic defensive effort with numerous lengthy rallies.

Many players deserve extra recognition for their efforts today.

Emma Randolph had extreme attack efficiency today. Since moving to the outside, she has developed her run-up to generate even more power.

Erin Torpey and Emily Hudson had similar success offensively with a combination of winners down the alleys and cut shots.

Junior Grace Sanderson impacted the game with several strong attacks in the third set including an absolute bomb.

Eva Haralabatos remains an unsung hero at the setter position and with a dominant spinless serve that is hard to read and return.

Mary Kate Mahoney looked especially sharp in the back row today.

Sofia Centrella spelled Emma Randolph in the back row today, providing steady defense and giving Emma rest aiding her power game.

Lady Raider Notes

If Melrose can build on performances like today, they will be a tough out during the tournament. "Faces in the Crowd" notes former Lady Raider Annemarie Wiesen took in today's match.

Winchester beat Reading 3-0 to remain undefeated (6-0) atop the Middlesex League Liberty Division.

King Philip upset Canton 3-2 in a key Hockomock League contest.
