Individuals want minutes, role, and recognition. Recognition takes multiple forms - awards, money, media.
"Control what you can control." That won't include the type or extent of recognition. Control your response to the media. Become a sophisticated, media-friendly player. The includes both substance and style.
1. Thank the interviewer.
2. Be positive.
3. Share the credit. Recognize others responsible for your success, your coaches and your teammates. Others can see you as a selfish credit grabber or as a great teammate. Reflect on Adam Grant's "Give and Take." “Givers get to the top without cutting others down, finding ways of expanding the pie that benefit themselves and the people around them.”
4. Communicate confidently.
