Summarize the 2023 MVB season. The glass was far more than half full.
Coming off consecutive Sectional Titles and facing the loss of six important seniors, expecting another sectional title was a big ask.
The team collected another Freedom Division title, and lost only to exceptional clubs - Westborough, Newton North, Canton, and ML12 Liberty Division champion Belmont.
They got All-Conference (ML12 top 6) performances from Sadie Jaggers and Leah Fowke and All-Star selections for Grace Gentile and Sabine Wenzel.
And they achieved this with injuries and illness. Caroline Higonenq came back early from knee surgery and will be better next season. Sofia Papatsoris was a revelation in the middle until illness knocked her out for the season.
Senior leadership was high with Grace and Sadie and Manon Marchais contributed needed experience, out of position in the middle when illness and injury arrived.
Two of the top three full-time back row players - Maggie Turner and Gigi Albuja - return for senior seasons.
There was development with nine juniors who will compete for roles, and young players like the Killer B's - Anna Burns and Emme Boyer who will compete for big roles. And the sky is the limit for Sabine with growing experience and a 10' 4" touch.
Few teams finish the season with a win and the returners will look to achieve that next year.
If you ask Coach Scott Celli about his attitude toward this season and this team, I expect he would say, "Proud."
