As the Lady Raiders enter the 2013 season, they should ask themselves some questions. Last season brings back warm memories, but that won't matter tomorrow. You don't get any carryover of last year's play.

Each team designs its own legacy. What do we want? What do we believe? Simply, what are our goals and what sacrifices do we make to accomplish them?

Is our commitment to schoolwork one hundred percent? Do we eat properly? Do we get enough rest? Do we follow team rules and protocol enthusiastically, lead by example, that is set high quality standards for ourselves?

Are we working to develop the "six skills"? If you do not know what they are, then you cannot be working assiduously to improve them. This is not an academic question. It returns to the core questions, what are our expectations, how do we achieve them?


Practice is not sufficient. Achievement follows deliberate practice, work designed to meet developmental needs. Deliberate practice is often not fun.

Performing at a high level is fun. Succeeding is fun. Being a good teammate is fun.

The fun starts tomorrow.
