Athletic competition offers participants the opportunity to savor the journey, not just the destination. Great successes in life (not lottery tickets) follow deliberate practice and a great process...on both the individual and collective level.
Because you want to improve, you accept change as a given, and strive to make the physical, psychological, and emotional adjustments necessary for YOU. One player may need to be more 'amped up' and another 'calmed down'. Over time, self-analysis affords you the experience to know what you need the most.
In Dr. Brett Steenbarger's "Enhancing Trader Performance", he introduces many sobering points.
"Competence precedes confidence: Winning mind-sets result from mastery, not the reverse." In other words, you cannot will yourself to win without the requisite performance tools.
"Practice is the cornerstone of expertise, because it multiplies experience." The sum of your experience produces competence and consistency IF you have paid the price. To simplify Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers, "It's the 10,000 hours, baby."
Make it happen.
