Ambition lies at the heart of progress. Maybe you're a "stay ready" (reserve) player or a JV-A player learning the game.
"Do more to become more and become more to do more."
What should you be thinking?
- I want to get better.
- I want to know how to improve.
- I want to contribute to varsity winning as soon as possible.
- I want to excel.
How is this possible?
- Ask your coach what more you can do.
- Watch game video to assess your technique and decisions. (Hint, watch at slower speed, e.g. 0.25 or 0.5 for better detail.)
- Make adjustments and repeat the cycle.
Here's an article about Coach Anson Dorrance and 'continual ascension'. When there is improvement across systems, the overall quality improves and the standard deviation decreases. That results in lesser difference between players and teams, resulting in greater competition.
Here's another older article I wrote about Coach Dorrance.
