The volleyball breakup dinner arrives tonight, celebrating the players and families who make MVB happen. Two words we won't hear are "I wish," as in I wish I worked harder.
Many of you have heard of Jackie Robinson, who broke baseball's 'color barrier' becoming a Hall of Famer, despite enduring unimaginable abuse and prejudice as a player. Few of you know Mack Robinson, his brother. He earned a silver medal, finishing after Jesse Owens in the 1936 200 meter dash in the Olympics. Fame was not his destiny as he became a street sweeper.
Another American hero spoke of sweeping streets.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
― Lagniappe. Winners do more. Here's the Anson Dorrance quote (again) about Mia Hamm, working out, alone, unnoticed.
