This piece provokes thought.
1. Do some high intensity, short-distance training (e.g. sprints, jumping rope).
2. Do some longer-distance timed running.
3. Play volleyball.
4. Make it fun and competitive.
As college baseball players, we had the "pitcher's mile" run, indoors on an elevated track. I think there were 18 laps to a mile. We had to beat 6:30 but the competition was on. As a junior, I ran a 5:07 mile. One year the best time was 4:54.
