"Commander's Intent"

Delegate. Decades ago, a problem would arise on Friday afternoon, a patient in the ICU with shock or someone on the Oncology ward with opportunistic infection after treatment. CAPT Walsh simply told us, "Handle it."

That's how teams work, understanding "Commander's Intent," using a vision of the 'end state' and the intermediate steps needed.

Team sports are similar. "This is what we have to do. Do it." Coaches provide the tools for players to execute the plan.

Thursday's win and this Woburn profile provide context for the upcoming week. Beating a senior-laden, tournament-tested team has value. It's part of the intermediate steps toward the end state.

The great inventor, Thomas Edison emphasized three concepts:
  • Imagination
  • Persistence
  • Analogy
Intent matters across domains. Be intentional at home. "Take care of business." Be intentional in schoolwork, determined to present your best self and your best work. Be intentional in sports. "This is what we have to do. That is how we will do it." Apply the analogy of "Commander's Intent" at home, at school, and 'at work'.

Lagniappe (something extra). Are you inspired?
