Melrose's nine sectional championships come with a formula - great players and persistence.
The 2009 team had the requisite ingredients particularly three dynamic hitters - Hannah Brickley, Athena Ziavras, and the highly underrated Laura Irwin. They also featured 2022 Hall of Fame inductee Colleen Hanscom at setter.
Teddy Roosevelt's message, "comparison is the thief of joy" resonates, reminding us that each team is special and the seniors of 2009 had multiple trips to the sectional finals before breaking through.
Hannah's brilliant use of angles stands out along with Colleen's overall athleticism.
