Melrose Volleyball: Second Half Schedule

"You have to play the schedule." One of the perennial criticisms of the New England Patriots is their AFC East schedule. The Middlesex League has become more competitive with the rise of numerous programs. Top teams in the league have improved greatly and improved their non league schedules.

UNC Soccer Coach Anson Dorrance (winner of over 20 NCAA championships) attributes improvement to the competitive crucible of practice leading to continual ascension. Each player receives a score and ranking for every activity (conditioning, drills, scrimmaging) and a daily score. This is neither possible nor appropriate for high school athletes, but reflects the classic Turkish proverb, "measure a thousand times, but cut only once."

The second half schedule ushers playoff-caliber teams into the post-season. Melrose challenges a terrific second half schedule including Reading, AC, and Burlington on the road, and Winchester, State Champion Westborough (Saturday match), and Central at home.

Notice that the 20 game schedule compresses into less than two months, figuratively flying by.

Mark these dates on your calendar to see competitive volleyball.
