Sophomore Kiki Kiernan and Freshman Autumn Whelan got opportunities and both set the table for Melrose hitters. Years ago in a big Saturday clash at D1 Andover, setter Amanda Hallett broke a shoelace and Taylor Pearson came in off the bench to help the team win six of seven points in a five set win. You never know when your number gets called. Be ready for it.
Melrose raised the attack levels to over ten per set usually indicating better passing, allowing better setting and better attack chances. Emma Randolph averaged five kills/set with a strong outing and steady Erin Torpey added nine kills.
Five of the top six records in the league belong to Liberty (large) Division schools.
Coming attractions: Melrose hosts Frontier Regional later this season. Frontier beat NDA Hingham yesterday, a good indication of their strength.
