Note that among the highly ranked teams, most have few games "committed" to league play. This allows them to schedule more competitive teams (if they choose). This might not make a difference every year, but in any given year this could have importance.
Although the Middlesex League has clearly improved (noteworthy are Lexington, Burlington, and Winchester), Melrose is still the only highly-ranked ML team. Improved ML competition benefits the teams who advance to post-season play.
