I spoke with a Stoneham volleyball parent today, who confirmed that some of the players were frustrated (early) by the departure of their former coach who took a teaching job out of the area. Nevertheless, they come in undefeated.
The anonymous parent noted that Stoneham hasn't faced any 'strong' teams yet, and I echoed to him the famous local line, "you have to play the schedule". I don't expect Melrose to underestimate any opponents. Last season, Stoneham took a game from Melrose during each contest, which Coach Celli is sure to remind his team. Stoneham narrowly missed the playoffs last season, and they are determined to get in on the post-season fun this year.
