Volleyball is a game of momentum. Sustain yours and interrupt theirs. The best way to do that is playing present. Coaches say that many ways:
- "Next play"
- Play "in the moment"
- Focus.
- Be here now.
- "Be where your feet are." (my favorite)
Every "run" starts with one play. In basketball, some use the term 372. Three "stops" in a row, seven times a half, both halves. Some call three stops in a row "kills."
Mistakes are inevitable. Nobody beats a competent team 25-0. In 2005, an 'angry' Melrose team beat an upper division ML team 25-3 after the opposing coach had 'called them out'.
Mental mistakes frustrate coaches and are correctable. "Don't blame, complain, or make excuses."
- Foot faults on service can never happen.
- Ball watching shouldn't happen.
- Lack of communication "campfires" shouldn't happen.
- Rotation errors can't happen.
Lagniappe. Great short video on technical and tactical passing errors. Thinks "feet, platform, head."
