"Checklist Manifesto"

Checklists boost productivity and reliability. Dr. Atul Gawande wrote The Checklist Manifesto with discussion about checklists across disciplines. Surgeons use pre-operative checklists. Pilots have pre-flight checklists. Investors have company characteristic checklists. Chefs have ingredient, time, and temperature checklists.

What's on your volleyball checklist? Too many and you may not get it done. Too few and you omit key steps.

What's on your volleyball checklist?

1) Know four structural improvements - skill, strategy, physicality, psychology

2) Build flexibility, strength, power, and endurance. Have a workout schedule and specific exercises, repetitions, and sets.

3) *Train for greatness, make everyone around you better.

4) Find workout partners to shift the productivity curve to the right.

5) Track progress. "Winners are trackers." - Darren Hardy, The Compound Effect

Checklists increase productivity and accuracy.

Lagniappe. Hit harder. Choose a few key areas:

  • Conditioning, vital for long matches
  • Flexibility, shorter muscles generate less force
  • Footwork
  • Vertical jump
  • Functional strength (triceps > biceps)
  • Core strength
