Holistic Training: Mindfulness

The complete twenty-first century athlete has elite size, athleticism, and skill. Most of us are not physically gifted with extremes of size or athleticism. Therefore, we must maximize our skill in physical, mental (game knowledge), and psychological domains.

Elite professional, Olympic, and college athletes achieve that via mindfulness training, using a variety of techniques.

But, "I don't understand." Now you can. Many athletes struggle to maintain peak performance because of diminished awareness (concentration, engagement, focus) and negative self-talk. In the movie, The Replacements, they discussed "quicksand."

Shane Falco: "You're playing and you think everything is going fine. Then one thing goes wrong. And then another. And another. You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can't move... you can't breathe... because you're in over your head. Like quicksand."

In my basketball blog today, I share specific mindfulness training tools. Some call them "tactical training" and others "resilience training." Diminish anxiety, improve your focus (in the classroom and on the court. Improve our habits and our performance. 15 minutes a day...
