Melrose advances with a straight set 25-3, 25-11, and 25-12 home victory over the West Roxbury Raiders.
Melrose hosts the winner of Arlington Catholic/Hamilton-Wenham Wednesday 11/8/2017 in the sectional semifinals.
Melrose was in control of the match throughout. West Roxbury struggled with the service offerings of Captains Lily Fitzgerald, Lydia Lombardo, Jill Mercer, and Saoirse Connolly throughout. That contributed to the first set score.
The visitors warmed up in the second set, but so did Saoirse as she delivered multiple winners.
Coach Scott Celli substituted liberally throughout the third set with all of the freshmen and sophomores contributing. Sophomore Claire Albuja in particular made plays during the third set on the outside. Kiki Kiernan filled in capably at setter during the final frame as well.
The preliminaries are over. Melrose takes on the heavyweights Wednesday, regardless of the Generals/Cougars winner.
