"No progress occurs without change, but not all change is progress." - Coach John Wooden
ML12 volleyball elects to 'reformat' the schedule -via Coach Scott Celli
"Play everyone once in the league. Then, based on power rankings, play two more league matches. Room for seven non-league matches."
1. Historically, the Freedom (small) division has balanced three upper division teams (Melrose, Burlington, Wakefield) with three lower division teams (Stoneham, Wilmington, Watertown).
2. The reformat drops 2 historically "stronger" teams and 3 "weaker" teams. Obviously, stronger and weaker are 'dynamic' and subject to change.
3. "Traditional rivalries" may or may not be preserved based on the power rankings.
4. "The devil is in the details." It's generally enjoyable to see non-league teams, although creating some additional travel.
5. Bottom line. Each team still plays each other and stronger teams play two 'stronger teams' in league games. I like it.
