Big Week Coming Up

Sport is "merit-based." Tryouts and the preseason are performance-based not performative.

Scrimmages Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday provide players opportunity to earn the trust of Coach Scott Celli as the team prepares for the September 3rd opener at Belmont.

Bill Parcells shared his sentiments about coaches. "Coaches are the most selfish people. We want to put players on the field who make us look good."

Ralph Labella said it another way, "Play entertaining basketball." Teams engage fans by making plays, limiting mental and physical errors, and playing unselfishly.

Across domains, legendary value investor Benjamin Graham said, "In the short term, the market is a voting machine. In the long term it is a weighing machine (weighing earnings performance)."

Coaches create 'depth charts' with spreadsheets, pencil, or magnetic nameplates. That's because depth charts change depending on availability, health, and performance.

MLB.com maintains a depth chart of each team. This reveals the truth about Bill Belichick's thoughts about "ability and durability" or the reality of the saying, "you can't make the club from the tub (rehab)." Note that four starters are out indefinitely.

The MVB positional depth chart (alphabetical unless bold).

Celtics' Coach Red Auerbach had a saying, "It's not about the five best players; it's about finding the five who play best together." The upcoming week will define the initial assessment of trust and together
