Skills - Think Broadly

Think broadly. Everyone can make those around us better. It's easy to think about parents, teachers, and coaches and it's more expansive.

Family - Add value for the family, helping with homework or chores, providing childcare if applicable, cooking a meal, driving a younger sibling.

School - Help a classmate understand a problem or a subject. Be positive and encourage your peers. "You have the ability to succeed."

Team - Mentor teammates, especially younger teammates. That might include platform or footwork skills, serving, blocking, and so forth. That could also include mental skills training. It includes how you present yourself to younger students in middle or elementary school. MVB is a continuum of excellence. Want to see those who come after you succeed. As James Kerr writes in Legacy, "be a good ancestor" and "leave the jersey in a better place."

Community - Players represent themselves and the team in the community. Model excellence for yourself and team to adds value. That includes interacting with media.

The sooner you adopt "professional" standards in all things, the sooner you raise your personal standards. "How you do anything is how you do everything."

Lagniappe. A thinking person's game...

Lagniappe 2. Repost. Important. Better hand contact, better attacks. Sometimes players "figure it out" late in their career. Better to find solutions early.
