Game 4: Winchester 3 Melrose 1

Winchester came to the Middle School and handled Melrose 25-20, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17. The loss drops Melrose to 3-1.

Melrose dug an early hole trailing 11-1 and although they steadied the ship they couldn't navigate a win.

Winchester won the battle of serve, serve-receive, attack, block, and defense.

Melrose showed fight at times throughout the match but couldn't raise their play to match Winchester's as the Red and Black went to a number of hard-to-defend pipe attacks that had Melrose on their heels.

Several John Fleming opportunistic timeouts also turned play in Winchester's favor.

What's on the table for improvement? Defensive coordination (block and defense) wasn't in top form. Give Winchester credit for aggressiveness, energy, and execution.

Melrose Coach Scott Celli made a variety of attack adjustments but the club wasn't able to generate much needed offense, especially in crunch time, against Winchester's tall blockers.

After reviewing the video, the coaches may have more ideas for improvement.

Melrose notes: Melrose travels to Wakefield Friday for a pivotal Freedom Division tilt against the rising D3 power.
