Game 3 Melrose 3 Reading 0

Melrose traveled to Reading and dispatched the Rockets 25-12, 25-17, and 25-22. Reading has a young competitive team without elite size that played hard. The win raises the MVB record to 3-0, 2-0 in the Middlesex League.

The operative words were "smart volleyball." The team made more consistent hitting decisions and a lot of players had hooks in the water.

Gg Albuja especially stood out as her palette of float serves gave Rocket defenders fits in addition to her DS magic with Maggie Turner. The setter-hitter timing continues to grow between Leah Fowke and Sabine Wenzel, parlayed into a raft of kills.

Caroline Higonenq had a better statistical game against Belmont, but she attacked with authority today. Sofia Papatsoris was consistent as usual and Alex Homan continues to grow into her defensive role where she adds value as a lefthanded server and second setter as well.

Emme Boyer continues to grow into a dependable pin hitter and Abby Dennison doesn't put up big numbers on the right side but remains quietly consistent. Sophomore Anna Burns got time as a designated server.

Melrose Notes: Reading's Hawkes Fieldhouse is a comfortable facility with peculiar lighting which distribute asymmetrically over the court. It's actually more noticeable during basketball.

Melrose returns home Wednesday to face John Fleming's always-tough Winchester Red-and-Black. Winchester faced Weston today with results unavailable.
