Feedback and Advice

Remember that feedback is 'backward-looking' and advice is 'forward-looking'.

Be coachable. Your coaches aren't going to say in isolation, "we need to improve our defensive coordination."

There's always an athletic/size component and a skill/effort input. "Control what you can control" implies the skill/effort part. Studying the film will reveal:

  • Anticipation, quickness, and footwork to the block
  • Timing of the block
  • Hand position re: spreading the fingers, penetrating the airspace, and angling and stiffness of the block.
It's a given that the state champion and state finalists of the past all had excellent blocking. You've heard the names so boring you is unnecessary.

Consider watching the State Championship game and studying the play.

The clips are not adjustable for playback speed as is the original. Study a player like Rachel Johnson (5) in the middle. She is relentless at the net, gets in position early and anticipates the attack with great timing, elite skill and effort.
