What's Your Why?

What drives you? Why do you sacrifice, sweat, dive on the floor? Brad Stevens calls it "competitive character."

Competitive character helps you communicate, close out long matches, and come back from deficits. It drives you.

When coaches find players and teams that want to compete as much as they do, they find someone special.

How you do anything is how you do everything. It's not what you do; it's who you are. Confident.

How should a competitor approach tryouts?
  • Listen
  • Be coachable. Follow instructions.
  • Bring positive energy.
  • Be a great teammate.
  • Play hard, play smart, play together, have fun.
Play hard because you love volleyball and you want to be part of something more.

Lagniappe. Acquire wisdom.

Don’t walk behind me;
I may not lead.
Don’t walk in front of me;
I may not follow.
Walk beside me
that we may be as one.

— Native American Proverb

Lagniappe 2. Consider this baseball analogy. "Hitting is timing. Pitching is disrupting timing." MVB will improve this season at serve, receive, and blocking.

Lagniappe 3. There's no tiebreaker for roster spots. If there were, this would be it. Why do you play
