In retrospect, the game recalled a semifinal loss to Fairhaven years ago. Amidst an excellent team, one player finished us, as Kara Charette had something like 35 kills in 2010 (?). Last night, Jess Wright had 27.
Charette was another Herald Team of the Decade member. For openers, she had 1269 career kills and 378 her senior season. She starred in basketball at Franklin Pierce amassing almost 2,000 points!
Sadie Jaggers added another 18 kills to put her season over 300 at 312, moving her into sixth place for a single Melrose season. I think that she and Sabine Wenzel combined for the most kills by a duo in a season.
Leah Fowke added 25 assists to finish at 625 on the season and added five blocks/kills. Her combination of skill and blocking deserve special mention and she returns for another season.
Grace Gentile led in serve receives as she almost always does with an excellent season at libero.
The team served at over 90 percent for the game, obviously a positive. Coach Scott Celli will look for both high consistency and more aces next season.
