Conditioning Considerations - Sunday Double

As a young player, learn to 'be professional'. Professionals come in on time, in shape, and mentally prepared. Come to tryouts in condition. Be prepared for summer heat and for five set matches.

This piece provokes thought.

1. Do some high intensity, short-distance training (e.g. sprints, jumping rope).
2. Do some longer-distance timed running.
3. Play volleyball.
4. Make it fun and competitive

As college baseball players, we had the "pitcher's mile" run, indoors on an elevated track. I think there were 18 laps to a mile. We had to beat 6:30 but the competition was on. As a junior, I ran a 5:07 mile. One year the best time was 4:54.

Lagniappe. Melrose has always covered hitters well.
