Game 19: 'Ship Shape, Melrose 3 Wilmington 0

Melrose sealed the Middlesex League Freedom Division title with a 25-6, 25-20, 25-20 victory at Melrose.

Melrose dominated during the first set, opening a 12-0 lead and coasted to a one-sided first set.

Subsequent action showed more resistance from the Wildcats (including one supporter constantly issuing Wildcat cries). Melrose hung on to win set two and rebounded from a 6-1 deficit in the third set.

Coach Scott Celli worked in reserves through the final two sets and perhaps the less familiar lineups showed up with inconsistent play.

Sophomore Abby Hudson made her varsity debut and punctuated it with her first kill, the game winner, as Melrose clinched its 15th ML banner in seventeen seasons.

Around the Net: Former Lady Raiders Alyssa Abbott and Kat Torpey were on hand to watch their younger sisters in action. In the ML12 Volleyball Night Winchester stayed undefeated with a win over Lexington and Belmont parlayed superior defense and setter play to shutout red hot Woburn 3-0.
