Melrose rebounded today with a straight set 25-13, 25-16, 25-21 victory over the visiting Wilmington Wildcats. The victory raised the Lady Raiders season record to 14-1, while the Wildcats dropped to 6-9.
Melrose put in a workmanlike performance with two unremarkable early sets against the back-row hitting Wildcats.
The third set was another story as Melrose worked in reserves and trailed 10-15 and 12-17. Coach Scott Celli allowed the girls to "figure it out" and they closed out the set without issues.
Lady Raider Notes: Back row defender Nicole Abbott was out of action with injury, but Marie Maher filled in admirably. Melrose got action from everyone available on the roster, currently consisting of four seniors, seven sophomores, and three freshmen. With the quality depth on the roster, competition for playing time is intense.
Melrose has three games in four days next week, beginning by hosting Bishop Fenwick.
