Melrose hosted Belmont and the Lady Raiders extended their winning streak to fourteen with a 25-9, 25-8, 25-12 victory.
The match featured two teams at opposite ends of the spectrum, Melrose a veteran, experienced team and Belmont in the developmental phase.
Melrose took a quick 13-1 lead and never looked back in the first set, hammering home fifteen kills led by five for Sarah McGowan, four for Kayla Wyland, and a trio for Jen Cain.
The second set showed very little difference, with Melrose off to 4-1, 8-2, 11-3, 14-4, 16-5, and 20-6 leads...before closing the set out 25-8.
Unofficially, Melrose piled on another thirteen kills, with Jen Cain firing in four, and a host of others contributing kills, Annalisa DeBari, Sarah (3), Rachel Johnson, Kayla, Sydney Doherty, Maave Moriarty, and Alyssa Abbott.
The third set saw liberal substitution yet more of the same after a sluggish start, abetted by a bizarre seven minute delay by officiating confusion, punctuated by a Melrose timeout. The score was tied at nine before Melrose restored order, with another fourteen kills. Rachel Johnson generated some hard shots and three kills, along with another for Kayla, two for Sarah, a setter dump by Brooke Bell, one for Allie Nolan, a pair for Sydney, one for Stephanie Crovo, and a late pair by Ashley Harding.
Game analysis: Although there was plenty of offense, that followed terrific play of the back row with outstanding passing from Amanda Commito, Jill MacInnes, Allie Nolan, Jen Cain, Annalisa DeBari and anyone else. Melrose's platform skills are the key to the team's success.
P.S. The JV continued their progress with a 2-1 win. Jeff Mate' sends along photographs here.
