Game 13 Recap

*Statistics courtesy of Dick Collis

Melrose faced a Burlington squad with only two losses, but dominated in the makeup game.

In set one, Melrose went out to a 9-1 lead, establishing early dominance and coasted. Three aces from Cassidy Barbaro got the team off to a fast start.

The Red Devils heated it up to close to 12-6, only to see Melrose go 13-1 for a first set wipeout.

Melrose had thirteen kills including three for Sarah McGowan and four for the steadily improving Rachel Johnson. Melrose added four blocks and had only one service error.

Set two was almost the inverse of set one early, with Burlington going up 7-2 before Melrose got it in gear. It was more McGowan and Johnson leading the way, although Jen Cain chipped in four aces. McGowan had another trio of kills and Rachel a brace.

Melrose trailed 13-6, but then went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, and with the score knotted at 16, another Barbaro service run (7) iced the Devils, en route to a 25-19 win. The team was service error free for the set.

The Lady Raiders set the pace in set three with a quick 8-2 lead, sparked by three McGowan kills and a Bell setter dump. Burlington got within 12-7, but another service run by Cain ensued and the rout was on at 19-7. Heavy substitution followed and Melrose brought it home 25-15.

Game analysis: It was another strong outing for the Lady Raiders as they dominated a first division club. Strong service from Cassidy and Jen made the difference in addition to the usual solid play of the back row and Brooke Bell setting.
